The Last Single Lady

Take control of your January: this chilly month can be fun for single ladies too!

January has always been the most depressing month in my book. It is the month of the hangover, and of false starts to new resolutions. And for those patiently waiting in singlehood, it is often the month where it feels like you’re the only one left. Everyone is huddled up inside, and you are left debating to go to the gym, or to order in a pizza, and as my single lady and good friend, Joan says, “It’s just exhausting.”

It’s almost like for the rest of the year, we can go out and have fun, and embrace our singlehood. But by the time January rolls around, we are ready for something new, and when it doesn’t show up on command, it makes all the spoils of being single rather flimsy.

Joan tells me, “In some ways, I am excited about the new year. Deciding what I am going to do, where I am going to go. Is it Denver, New York, Paris, wherever? But in another way, I just want to settle down.”

I was watching E! the other day, and they had a commercial for their new launch of SATC episodes. Of all the quotes they could have used, they have Charlotte complaining, “I’ve been dating since I was 15. I’m exhausted. Where is he already?”

And if there was a rallying cry for January, it would be that, “Where is he already?”
